About Us

Our mission is to provide customized experiences for our guests.  Green River Adventures is a grass-roots, family-owned business.  We live on the banks of the Green River and love what we do.  Our business exists to create unforgettable whitewater experiences for your family or group.  No matter what adventure you are in search of, Green River Adventures can make it happen! Whether it be whitewater kayaking on some of the world’s most famous heart pumping rivers, or paddling through gentle rapids, we are the connection you need to make your summer in Western North Carolina one to remember.

Meet Us

Owners, Sara and Tim Bell

Sara started Green River Adventures in 2006.  It looked like so much fun, her husband Tim joined the crew last year. He quickly climbed the ranks from Maintenance Man to Operations Manager.  You can find either one of them on the water, driving your trip, taking your reservation, or waiving to you from their front porch on the banks for the Green River.  They have two awesome kids, Finn and Hurley.

Meet Our Whitewater Kayak Instructors, River Guides, and Staff

Our instructors come to us with a wealth of experience teaching whitewater kayaking and river guiding. They love what they do, professionally and personally. We are finding that Green River guides and instructors are raising the bar in the outdoor experience industry. They are what keep our clients coming back year after year!

Our guides are all professionals in the Outdoor Leadership Industry.  They are talented, experienced kayakers, and pumped about showing you how much fun a whitewater trip can be!

Isaac’s been chasing summertime around the globe for about 8 years – 3 of those he’s spent with Green River Adventures.  Originally from Christchurch, New Zealand, Isaac exemplifies “Professional Kayak Instructor”.  He most recently spent the fall running some of the worlds most majestic rivers throughout India and Nepal.

Jamie is who you’ll likely speak with when booking your trip or checking in. He’s a graduate of Appalachain State in Recreation Management and working with GRA to expand his knowledge of the outdoor tourism industry.  When he’s not at GRA you can find him peddling up some of the steepest grades in Western North Carolina.

John is a recent graduate of Brevard College’s Wilderness Leadership program.  A veteran IK guide and experienced, certified kayak instructor – John joins us for his second year at GRA.  Affectionately referred to as our “gentle giant” – if he’s taking you down the river, you’re in good hands.

Soph is the woman! Also a native of New Zealand, Soph is returning for another year of teaching and guiding at Green River Adventures.  She spends her “other” summer teaching kayaking at the New Zealand Kayak School.  She’s one of our most requested instructors.  If you want to learn how to roll – she’s the ticket.

Lizzy’s joining us this season after a semester course with NOLS.  She’s a student at Clemson (don’t hold it against her) and working on the Green River for the first time this year.

Ford learned to kayak years ago through our Rapid Experiences program. A talented athlete and ladies man – working on the river seemed a natural fit.  He completed an internship with us last year, and we’re thrilled to have him back guiding IK trips on the Upper and Lower.

Eric comes to us from the Outdoor and Wilderness Studies program at Amherst College.  A native of Massachusetts, Eric spends his time ice and rock climbing when he’s not bombing down whitewater.

Steven is also a superstar from Brevard College. Steven is a passionate whitewater kayaker who is using this summer’s work on the river as a breather from a career in Wilderness Therapy.

Tony is working on wrapping up a degree in Outdoor Education from the highly regarded program at Ohio University. He participated in an steep creeking clinic at GRA with a group from OU last spring.  We’re excited to have our fist intern from this program – and he’s super fun too!
