Kayak Clinics:

What do I bring with me on the river?

What do I need to wear?

The water on the Green River is warm. If the weather is warm, a bathing suit and shoes that will stay on your feet while swimming are recommended. During early spring and late fall, we recommend layering with synthetics such as fleece or polypropylene. Anything you forgot or need for the trip can be purchased in our store.

Kayak Instruction - 2-day Introduction To Whitewater Kayaking

This course is designed to transform you into a whitewater kayaker. Emphasis is on safety and practical skills, allowing you to maximize your fun and minimize frustrations in this early stage of learning. We strive to make you feel comfortable, safe, and have a successful introduction to kayaking. All equipment is provided, unless you want to use your own.

Expect to spend your first morning on flat water and gently moving water, learning new skills and gaining knowledge. You will get wet!! By the first afternoon we are on whitewater applying skills established earlier in the day. Day two is designed around your goals and skills. Usually we run a river that is well within your ability but also gives you a taste of adrenaline!

"As a first time kayaker who went into the weekend expecting to enjoy the sport, I was ready for a more rigidly structured learning process. What actually transpired pleasantly surprised me, changing my attitude from being ready to grind out the skills to being excited about the possibilities." Michael Sheehan - Charlotte, NC

We will cover in detail; gear fit and it's proper use, wet exits, basic strokes, river safety, river reading and strategy, and the roll. We will spend as much time practicing the roll as you want, since this is a difficult skill to learn without an instructor. Learning to roll your boat is one of the best ways to gain confidence as a beginner kayaker and we make sure you get it right!

"The overall experience was great! I never dreamed I would feel this comfortable in a kayak and be able to read and negotiate whitewater by the end of my second day even being in one." Zachary Adams, Cullman Alabama
