Description: Green River Adventures started as a kayak school with private clinics as our core program. Private kayak clinics allow your instructor to customize each clinic to meet your goals. As a starting point, we’ve developed a list of clinic outlines that will fit the goals of most clients. Your instructor will call prior to your clinic to discuss specific goals, skills, and expectations. From start to finish, you’ll learn more with us.

Intro to Whitewater

Learn how to kayak with an emphasis on practical skills, safety and FUN! We strive to make you feel comfortable, safe, and successful. Spend the morning on flat water and gentle current before running Class I-II rapids in the afternoon. Skills: wet exits, basic strokes, river safety, river reading/strategy, eddy turns/peel outs, ferries, and rolling. Recommended as a 2-day course.

Intro to Creeking

Tempted by the vertical world of whitewater? The Class II-IV Upper Green is the perfect place to learn stroke timing, edging, boofing, rapid scouting and picking lines. We’ll use video as a learning tool while you practice your skills.

Kayak Roll Clinics

Learn to roll, add another, or fix what ails you. We teach a number of roll techniques including: sweep, “C to C”, back deck, off-side, and hands rolls. Roll Clinics are scheduled for the first Friday of every month, May-September. Private Roll Clinics are also available.

Swiftwater Rescue

This 2-day class teaches recognition and avoidance of common river hazards, self-rescue techniques, and rescue techniques for paddlers in distress. We place an emphasis on simple, commonly used skills in both an individual and team/group context. Participants will leave the clinic with a certificate of completion from the ACA in Swiftwater Rescue: Level 4.

Advanced Creeking

There’s no better place to learn advanced creeking than the Green River Gorge. This 2-day course starts slow and finishes big.

Day 1: Perfect stroke timing, boofing, and edging on the Upper Green before mustering your courage on Class IV+ Hammer Factor Rapid of the Narrows.

Day 2: Hike into run the Class IV+ Lower Narrows. This is a vertical playground for boofing, scouting, and adrenaline rapids.

Beyond the Basics

Take the next step in the sport and perfect your eddy turns, ferries, stroke efficiency, river reading, surfing, and rolling. This clinic allows you to shake off the cobwebs, correct your bad habits, and find a new plateau.

At GRA, our goal is to make you a whitewater kayaker and take your kayaking to the next level. We are experiential educators who believe the most effective way to learn is by reducing class sizes and focusing on your goals. No one learns in the same way, or at the same pace. Therefore, we exclusively offer private instruction at industry-leading rates.

With a maximum ratio of 4 students to 1 instructor, our clinics are more flexible to fit the goals of each student. We progress faster, get to know each other better, and crowd the river less. Call us, we’ll make you a kayaker.

All of our clinics run from 9am-5pm. Lunch and gear are included. We carry the latest equipment from the best manufacturers in the industry: Liquid Logic Kayaks, Pyranha Kayaks, Astral Designs PFDs, Werner Paddles, Shred Ready helmets, and Snap Dragon Designs sprayskirts. Bring your own gear of you have it, or try ours.

Email or Call, 828-749-2800, to book your clinic! We will ask you some personal information about each individual in your party including height, weight, dietary restrictions (for lunch), a general description of paddling level. Then your instructor will call before your clinic to set goals.
